Bearpaw is our council's winter-weather training program designed to get Scouts ready for snow camping. The indoor session focuses on dressing for snow, packing for the campout, camping in snow, traveling on snow, menus and cooking, winter first aid, and driving in winter conditions.
The practical application portion of BearPaw is scheduled typically the last weekend of February, and recently at at Snowflower Resort and Sno-Park just off Highway 80 at Yuba Gap. This is a chance for your Scouts to experience snow camping in a safe environment with other scouts from throughout the council. Think council-wide camporee in the snow! Training includes snow caving, igloo construction, fire building in the snow, emergency transport, ice rescue, winter first aid, and more.
